August 2011 NEWS FLASH :IT'S HERE! Robert Crumb with McCamy's Melody Sheiks new CD "There's more pretty girls then one" is available on Arhoolie Records.
The McCamy's Melody Sheiks featuring Robert Crumb, Stephen Harrison and Ilan Moss is now out on Arhoolie Records. We're playing 1920's old time American string band music learned from 78 rpm records, for the most part from Robert's personal collection. We recorded in my house using vintage microphones and instruments, just sitting around together and having a great time. We tried to recreate an old time setting as much as possible and, uh, well I think it came out great!
The Award winning Melody Sheiks! I just received an award of appreciation from the United States Department of State at the American Embassy in Paris for my contribution of music in France. It was a great ceremony for the Misssion awards at the Embassadors residence, and I am very proud to receive this, many thanks to everyone at the embassy.

"What many people may not know is that R. Crumb is a fanatical collector of 78RPM records, including an amazing selection of early Old-Time music 78s. Fiddler Ian McCamy met R. Crumb in France (where they both now live) and started playing music together, drawing on Crumb’s 78 collection for inspiration. On this album they tear into some of their favorites, mostly traditional American fiddle music, some well known, some very obscure. This is heartfelt, joyous music played with respect for the ancient tones found within the grooves of those old 78s. 17 selections, with complete notes / background on each song."
